The Division pursues interdisciplinary R&D to convert industrial and different E-wastes into value-added materials and technologies for healthcare, strategic, and environmental applications. Key focus areas include transforming red mud into radiation shielding materials and fly ash into multiple functional materials under Waste to Wealth initiative, secured landfill and leachate studies, environmental pollution & monitoring studies and solar waste recycling. In environmental monitoring, the Division develops SODAR systems for air pollution management and SERS approaches for pollutants detection. Advanced materials research targets 2D nanomaterials for electrochemical biosensors, carbon-based microbial fuel cells for simultaneous wastewater treatment and energy generation, and electrocatalysts for HER, OER, ORR and CO2 bio-electro reduction to value-added products like formic acid and methane. In biomedical innovation, the Division works on electrochemical immunosensors for early diagnostics of breast, ovarian, oral cancers and infectious diseases; microfluidic platforms for antimicrobial susceptibility testing; and 3D bioprinting for biomedical patches.
